Interface

The photo project, 'Interface', consists of large scale prints of documentary photographs depicting urban scenes discovered on an ordinary walk around town. The photographs record the laconic graffiti left by a passer-by, inscribing an unconscious picture of the technological reality on the wall. The display, which is drawn on the wall of a building, becomes the 'switch' for the transfer from the unmarked to the marked space. This signalises that which Paul Virilio sees as the progressive replacement of the urban area by interface and as an indication of a time in which the very concept of physical dimension is losing its meaning. At a time when 'the screen has replaced the town square', the urban space has really become 'the critical space'.
